Drug and Alcohol Intervention Services for Youth, or D.A.I.S.Y., provides intervention and education services for substance abusing youth grades 6-9 who are referred by parents, schools, Social Services, Behavioral Health, Probation and Juvenile Drug Court.
Identified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as an evidence-based best practice, the 12-week program combines individual, group and family counseling.
Services are provided in both English and Spanish.
D.A.I.S.Y. will soon offer The Seven Challenges curriculum. These challenges are based on the thoughts and experiences of a culturally diverse group of young people who either recovered from drug problems or prevented themselves from having a serious problem with drugs.
THE SEVEN CHALLENGES
- We decided to open up and talk honestly about ourselves and about alcohol and other drugs.
- We looked at what we liked about alcohol and other drugs, and why we were using them.
- We looked at our use of alcohol and other drugs to see if it had caused harm, or could cause harm.
- We looked at our responsibility and the responsibility of others for our problems.
- We thought about where we seemed to be headed, where we wanted to go, and what we wanted to accomplish.
- We made thoughtful decisions about our lives and about our use of alcohol and other drugs.
- We followed through on our decisions about our lives and drug use. If we saw problems, we went back to earlier challenges and mastered them.
