Off Main Clinic provides methadone maintenance and detoxification to adults suffering from addiction to heroin and other opiates.
Methadone is a synthetic drug that is legal, inexpensive, does not damage body organs or tissues and, when prescribed and taken appropriately, does not create a euphoric high. It's rehabilitating effects include:
- Relief from sickness resulting from withdrawal from opiates
- Reduction of craving for opiates
- Allows the time needed for other treatment methods to become effective
- Eliminates the physical reasons for continued use of illegal drugs
Off Main provides a physical examination to determine eligibility for services, after which a dose of methadone is determined and prescribed. Counselors provide treatment planning and counseling. The clinic also provides HIV/Hepatitis C risk assessment, confidential HIV testing and disclosure sessions, risk reduction and education and referral services.
To qualify for methadone maintenance, clients must meet the following minimum criteria:
- At least 18 years of age
- Proof of a one-year history of opiate addiction, or proof of one prior attempt at detoxification using methadone
- Currently addicted to opiates unless discharged from methadone treatment within the last six months
- Possess a legal picture ID
To qualify for methadone detoxification, a client must meet the following minimum criteria:
- At least 18 years of age
- Currently addicted to opiates
- At least seven days have elapsed since the last episode of detoxification treatment
- Only two treatment episodes per 12 month period
- Possess a legal picture ID
The maintenance program fee is $300 per month. Medi-Cal is accepted for the maintenance program only. The detoxification program fee is $200 per month.
