Off Main Clinic (OMC) is a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program which provides individually-tailored medication, counseling, and medical consultation to adults with opioid addiction or severe alcoholism.

OMC is strongly committed to bringing the very best and most effective treatment options to its patients. The clinic is state-licensed and accredited by CARF International. OMC complies with all federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

The dispensing of all medications at OMC is supervised by medical staff. Medications provide relief from withdrawal symptoms, eliminate the need for illicit drug use, and allows the time for other treatment and counseling methods to become effective.

Methadone is used to treat patients with opioid dependency or addiction. Methadone does not cause damage to body organs or tissues when prescribed and taken appropriately. Methadone is a synthetic narcotic, is long-lasting, legal, of high quality, and free of contaminants. It is a full opiate agonist.  It provides relief from withdrawal symptoms, eliminates the physical reasons requiring illicit drug use, and allows other treatment methods to become effective.

Buprenorphine is used to treat patients with opioid dependency or addiction. It is legal and does not damage body organs or tissues when prescribed and taken appropriately. Buprenorphine is partial opiate agonist. The commonly referred to medication ‘Suboxone’ is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. Suboxone is not currently offered at OMC. Depending on the case, people with heavy opiate habits and serious, chronic addiction, buprenorphine may not provide complete or effective relief from withdrawal symptoms for some individuals. Withdrawal symptoms of a buprenorphine detoxification, as well as the risk of fatal overdose, is generally less than Methadone detoxification.

Disulfiram is used to treat chronic alcoholism. It causes unpleasant effects when even small amounts of alcohol are consumed. These effects include flushing of the face, headache, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, weakness, blurred vision, mental confusion, sweating, choking, breathing difficulty, and anxiety. These effects begin about 10 minutes after alcohol enters the body, and last for 1 hour or more. Disulfiram is not a cure for alcoholism, but discourages drinking. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses. Disulfiram may be taken in conjunction with buprenorphine or methadone.

Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan, is the only FDA-approved nasal form of Naloxone. Narcan nasal spray is used for the emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose, as manifested by respiratory and/or central nervous system depression. Narcan spray is intended for immediate administration as emergency therapy in settings where opioids may be present. Narcan nasal spray is not a substitute for emergency medical care. Narcan nasal spray will be provided to those who meet the criteria for high risk.

To determine eligibility for services, patients must be assessed by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessment tool. OMC also provides a free of charge initial intake screening. Once it is determined the patient meets eligibility criteria, the patient receives a physical examination by licensed medical professionals who are addiction experts. The patient is paired with a counselor who provides emotional support, treatment planning and guidance in helping the patient achieve their goals. The clinic dispenses methadone on an outpatient basis under the close supervision and guidance of a physician and other health specialists.

OMC also provides HIV/hepatitis C risk assessments, confidential HIV testing and disclosure sessions, harm and risk reduction, and education and referral services.

OMC is a medical treatment program and has no formal affiliation with criminal justice agencies of any kind. Patient information is strictly confidential. Participation in the program is voluntary, and clients may end their participation at any time without penalty.
